Epiphany was celebrated when the journey of
the Magi, wisemen, was commemorated by a procession in church by the
mini and plus saints. The three gifts given to Jesus had a spiritual
meaning: gold as a symbol of kingship on earth, frankincense (an
incense) as a symbol of deity, and myrrh (an embalming oil) as a symbol
of death reflecting the future life of Jesus.
